The Netherlands Carillon School
The Netherlands Carillon School was founded in Amersfoort in 1953. Since its founding in 1953, more than 250 students from eleven countries have studied here, nearly half of them from abroad. They preside over most of Holland's 182 carillons and occupy positions in many other parts of the world. In 1985 it became part of the Utrecht School of the Arts, Faculty of Music . This is the only place in the world where the Carillon profession is taught at the highest level – Master of Music. All aspects of education at the Netherlands Carillon School are internationally oriented. The Faculty of Music, Utrecht School of the Arts, is a result of the merger of the Netherlands Carillon School of Amersfoort with the Utrecht Conservatory of Music and the Netherlands Institute for Church Music. One of the many benefits of this merger is the possibility for each student of the Netherlands Carillon School to follow programs of study, wholly or partially, offered by the other schools.
Other divisions of the Utrecht School of the Arts (ca. 3.500 students) are Visual Arts and Design, Music, Theatre, Art, Media & Technology and Art and Economics. The School maintains a strong bond with the Utrecht University (28.000 students) and is prominently represented within several European networks for higher education in the arts.
